The EARTH-2030 International Conference: A Collective Step Towards Climate Adaptation and Digital Inclusion
The EARTH-2030 international conference took place in the historic city of Naoussa, Greece, from April 4 to April 6, 2025, under the unifying theme “Adapting to Climate Change… We’re Changing Too!”. Organized by iAgroCert within the framework of the European CERV – Town Twinning programme, the event brought together 268 participants from five European countries—Greece, Croatia, Slovenia, Romania, and Spain—for a three-day exploration of climate challenges, sustainable food systems, and digital inclusion.
The event opened with a welcoming session and a guided introduction to Naoussa, allowing participants to familiarize themselves with the host city’s cultural and environmental context. Delegations from participating municipalities presented their local sustainability initiatives, creating a platform for mutual learning and inspiration. Early discussions focused on identifying EU funding opportunities and encouraging youth volunteering in climate-related actions, emphasizing the importance of active citizenship in driving environmental transformation.
On the second day, hosted at the Naoussa Centre of Industrial Heritage (ERIA), the focus shifted to sustainable food management and zero-waste solutions. The agenda combined expert presentations with interactive sessions, highlighting the EU’s Farm to Fork strategy and its alignment with SDG 12.3. Participants explored practical applications of circular economy principles in everyday food practices and shared case studies of successful cross-border collaborations addressing food surplus and insecurity. Topics such as local food sourcing and community-supported agriculture were discussed as effective approaches to promoting sustainable diets and reducing waste.
Technological innovation and digital tools also played a central role in the second day’s proceedings. Presenters introduced participants to smart agricultural practices using IoT, drones, and data analytics, showcasing how digitalization can drive sustainability in the food sector. Special attention was given to the importance of diversity and inclusion in tech development, with workshops exploring how underrepresented communities can contribute to climate innovation. The day concluded with a synthesis of key insights and recommendations for further local and transnational action.
The final day, held at the scenic Estate Chrisohoou, was dedicated to digital inclusion and equitable access to climate-related technologies. Participants engaged in a structured dialogue on bridging the digital divide, particularly for rural and vulnerable populations, ensuring that the benefits of environmental innovation are shared inclusively. The event concluded with a certificate ceremony, reinforcing the spirit of collaboration and acknowledging each participant’s contribution.
Beyond its technical content, the EARTH-2030 event offered rich cultural experiences that strengthened interpersonal bonds and fostered cross-cultural dialogue. From local tours to traditional gatherings at Saint Nikolaos, participants experienced firsthand the interconnection between culture, community, and climate action. Ultimately, the event reinforced a collective European identity rooted in solidarity, sustainability, and shared responsibility.
